A beautiful hand-drawn map of Lindisfarne, Northumberland. Also known as 'The Holy Island', it was a highly-important centre of early medieval 'Celtic' Christianity.
Lindisfarne was an important monastic centre in Anglo-Saxon England, and the bishopric of Saint Cuthbert. Although monks abandoned Lindisfarne in 875 following Viking raids, Lindisfarne was renewed as a Christian monastic centre in the Middle Ages.
My Lindisfarne map shows the island, medieval castle and priory ruins, and has been embellished with decorations inspired by the beautiful 8th century Lindisfarne Gospels manuscript at the British Library. Originally hand-drawn in 2016, it took two months to draw using dip-pens with various calligraphy and drawing nibs.
This map is perfect for anyone from Northumbria or who has visited The Holy Island.
