Shmuncki Poem Gifts was created from a simple idea: the right words can mean more than the gift itself.
In a world full of rushed messages, generic greetings cards and gifts people forget about a week later, shmuncki exists to help people say something real. Something honest. Something worth keeping.
At the heart of the brand is poet and founder Helen Walters, who writes every poem and verse that appears across the collection. What began as a creative outlet soon became something much bigger — a growing collection of keepsake gifts, poem prints and meaningful words designed to help people connect with the people they love most.
The idea behind shmuncki came from noticing something missing in the world of gifting. So many cards say the same things in the same way. They can often feel overly polished, over sentimental or strangely impersonal — full of perfect phrases that don’t sound like how real people actually speak to each other.
But the moments that matter most in life are rarely perfect.
The best relationships are built from small memories, shared jokes, difficult seasons, loyalty, history and the ordinary moments that become important over time. Sometimes what people really want to say is not “you are the best person in the world”, but something quieter, warmer and more human:
“Thank you for always being there.”
“I still remember that thing you did for me.”
“You made childhood feel safe.”
“I love you because of all the little things.”
That emotional honesty sits at the centre of everything Shmuncki creates.
The brand’s mission is simple:
Send something better.
Not just another card picked up at the supermarket five minutes before an occasion. Not words copied from a generic template. Not gifts that feel forgettable the moment they are opened.
Instead, shmuncki creates keepsakes people genuinely want to hold on to.
Many customers frame their poem gifts and prints after receiving them. Others keep them in memory boxes, on shelves, desks or bedside tables long after the occasion has passed. That idea became a huge part of the brand identity over time — these are not simply products for a single moment. They are pieces designed to stay.
Cards they’ll want to keep.
That phrase captures the spirit of the brand perfectly. Because while Shmuncki began with poetry, it has always really been about emotional permanence. Creating something that lasts longer than flowers, chocolates or novelty gifts. Something that becomes part of a home, a relationship or a memory.
Every collection is designed around meaningful human moments — birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, becoming parents, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, graduations, grief, friendship and all the complicated emotions in between.
The writing style intentionally avoids being overly formal or traditional. Instead, the tone is modern, conversational and emotionally grounded. Honest words are always more powerful than exaggerated ones.
Alongside the poetry itself, the visual identity of the brand also reflects this balance between sentiment and simplicity. Clean typography, contemporary layouts and thoughtful illustration styles help the words remain the focus. The aim is always to create designs that feel modern enough to display proudly in someone’s home, while still carrying warmth and personality.
Written from our little studio in Kent, particular careful attention is paid to quality, presentation and detail. From luxury textured cardstock to a beautiful keepsake gift, each order is designed to feel thoughtful from the moment it arrives.
Because personal care matters.
Every poem is written by Helen herself, and every product begins with the same question:
“How do we help someone say what they really mean?”
That question shapes everything from the writing process to the product design, packaging and customer experience.
shmuncki customers are often people searching for something more personal than a standard gift. They want the person receiving it to feel seen, understood and genuinely appreciated. They are buying emotion, memory and meaning — not just paper and ink.
And in many ways, that is why the brand has resonated so strongly with customers over time.
People remember how words made them feel.
Especially when those words arrive at exactly the right moment.
Whether it is a father receiving a poem from his daughter, a bride opening a keepsake before her wedding day, a grandparent reading a heartfelt message from grandchildren or a new parent holding onto words they will treasure forever — the emotional connection is always the most important part of the gift.
shmuncki exists to help create those moments.
To slow people down for long enough to say something properly.
To help customers move beyond generic messages and find words that feel more real, more thoughtful and more lasting.
Say what really matters — when it matters most.
As the brand continues to grow, the vision remains the same: to create meaningful keepsake gifts and poem collections that people return to again and again, not because they have to, but because they remember how the words made them feel the first time they read them.
Because the best gifts are not always the biggest or most expensive ones.
Sometimes they are simply the ones that say exactly what someone needed to hear.

I’m Helen — the poet and founder behind Shmuncki Poem Gifts.
I write every poem, verse and message for the brand myself.
I studied English Literature at university and had always been the person writing poems for birthdays, weddings and funny moments. Eventually, it stopped feeling like a hobby and started feeling like something worth building properly.
Because the right words are often the part people remember forever, long after the occasion has passed.
That became the foundation of the brand:
Send Something Better.
I wanted to create keepsakes built around honest words — cards and gifts people genuinely connect with, keep and frame, long after the occasion has passed.
Every poem is written to help somebody say what really matters, when it matters most.
Because most people do not need more stuff.
They need better words.
