A couple of years ago, Tequila conjured up thoughts of 3am shots, lime, salt and hazy debauchery we’d sooner have forgotten, until one night when we ran out of beers in our flat in Peckham. Instead of popping to the local shop, we thought we’d crack open a bottle of Tequila Tom’s brother brought back from Mexico a few months before, which had been sat gathering dust on the shelf. We were hooked from the first sip.
Intoxicated by that first taste (figuratively and literally) we delved deeper into the world of Tequila, quickly realising that aside from shotting, sipping or sugary cocktails, our options to enjoy it were limited. We wanted to enjoy Tequila in different occasions, like that first drink after work, with dinner or on a Sunday afternoon.
After explaining our problem to a bartender, she made us our first T&T, and there it was. The perfect way to enjoy Tequila - fresh, clean and full of natural flavours.
We then made the ridiculous decision to quit our jobs and head to Guadalajara. Once there, our designer - Mario - immersed us in a culture unlike anything we’d ever seen. This was modern Mexico; fresh, vibrant, full of attitude and depth. With the help of Mario and one of only 200 Maestro Tequileros in the world, Oscar Garcia, we set to work on creating a modern Tequila that could share some of this magic.

We have always believed in doing one thing and doing it well; making a single-ingredient tequila that celebrates the agave plant and her flavours. Our distillers use a simple, considered process to draw out the natural freshness - we don’t use botanicals or additives to create flavour because agave is the flavour, we simply preserve the magic so you guys can experience it too.
Our serve is clean and simple, like our product: Tequila, Tonic & Grapefruit. El Rayo’s fresh, herbal notes pair perfectly with tonic water - celebrating the flavour of agave, without ever overpowering it, and moving away from the outdated image of late night shots to a drink that’s a little longer.
This serve celebrates those who like to do things a little differently, and we know the feeling of making your first drink can often feel just as good as having one. It's a sign it’s finally time to switch off, slow down and enjoy life; the T&T is made for this moment.
