This immersive two day knife forging experience in Malton, North Yorkshire offers the chance to step into the world of traditional blacksmithing and create a chef’s knife entirely by hand. Designed for complete beginners as well as enthusiastic makers, the course combines expert tuition with a genuinely hands-on approach throughout.
Working in a small group of just three participants, each guest receives plenty of individual guidance from a professional blacksmith. From heating and hammering steel to shaping, grinding and heat treating the blade, every stage of the process is completed at the forge rather than demonstrated from the sidelines.
On the second day, attention turns to the finishing details. Participants choose from four blade designs and select their own handle timber before fitting, shaping and completing their knife. Once sharpened and polished, the finished chef’s knife is presented in a wooden presentation box ready to take home.
To keep energy levels up across the weekend, a buffet lunch is provided by The Cooks Place in Malton, along with unlimited tea and biscuits throughout the course.
