This full day woodturning experience is an inspiring introduction to a traditional craft, ideal for anyone curious about making or looking to develop a new creative hobby. Suitable for complete beginners and enthusiastic makers alike, the day combines expert guidance with plenty of hands-on time at the lathe.
Hosted by professional woodturners Dan Smith and Katie Armstrong, the course takes place in their dedicated teaching workshop in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. The day begins with a relaxed welcome over refreshments before moving into practical tuition covering essential woodturning techniques, tool use and workshop safety.
After a sandwich lunch, guests continue developing their skills through individual projects matched to their progress and confidence. Depending on the day, creations may include items such as candlesticks, bottle openers, bottle stoppers, pens or bowls. At the end of the session, participants leave with finished pieces and the confidence to continue exploring woodturning at home.
With a maximum of two people per course, the experience offers a relaxed and supportive environment with plenty of one-to-one guidance.
