Made with just flour and water, our live sourdough starter is nearly 100 years old and has been passed down through generations of bakers in Cheshire.
The Peace of Mind Kit gives you everything you need to start baking with it, plus a dried backup tucked away for the day life inevitably gets involved.
Because sourdough starters are surprisingly easy to become attached to.
One day you bake a loaf. Next thing you know, you’re talking about hydration percentages at dinner, checking your starter before bed and feeling genuine concern about whether it looks a bit flat today.
Then someone knocks it off the worktop.
Or forgets to feed it.
Or leaves it somewhere far too warm.
Or your well-meaning partner decides the mysterious jar in the fridge looks like something that should probably be thrown away.
That’s where the backup comes in.
Alongside your live starter, we include a dehydrated portion of the same nearly 100-year-old culture. Keep it somewhere safe and, if disaster ever strikes, you can revive it and start again.
Hopefully you’ll never need it. But you’ll know it’s there.
Our beautifully gift-boxed Peace of Mind Kit is designed for complete beginners, future bread obsessives and anyone who simply likes having a backup plan.
Inside the box you’ll find:
• Nearly 100-year-old live sourdough starter in a reusable food-safe jar with handy rise tracker
• Emergency dehydrated backup starter, ready to revive whenever needed
• 20g packet of premium bread flour for its first feed
• Simple starter care instructions and beginner bread recipe
• QR code access to our online guides and FAQs
With a little feeding, you could be baking your first loaf the very next day.
Your live starter is happiest at room temperature and fed daily, although it can live in the fridge if you bake less often. We recommend feeding it shortly after arrival to get it active and bubbling again.
Your dried backup needs far less attention. Pop it somewhere cool and dry, forget about it, and hopefully never have to find out how useful it is.
