About

The Millinery label The Headmistress was born on Valentine's day 2013 after a few years in the making. The first hat The Headmistress ever created was an Easter Bonnet for a school assembly, she was about 4 years old...... This is where it all began!

Later she went onto study Costume design for film and television where she was taught the tradtional methods of Millinery and after graduating was taught by by Rose Cory, the Queen Mothers Milliner. Having made a successful career in Film and Television Sam has taken her knowledge of period costume and fabric and combined this with her passion for Millinery to create a beautiful and unique collection.

Inspired by vintage fashion, she takes inspiration from different periods, styles and objects which she combines with a cutting edge twist. The headmistress is always on the search for beautiful vintage jewellery, fabrics, trimmings and adornments, which she then transforms into unique and often quirky pieces. Each piece is a one-off and lovingly handmade to perfection.

Please feel free to get in touch if you wish to make an enquiry about a custom-made piece. Her designs can be made to match any outfit for any special occasion.
