Description
A large circular mosaic compiled with Sternocera Jewel Beetle wings, completed on a bespoke wooden oak standSternocera Jewel Beetles are edible and farmed as a concentrated source of protein in their native countries of Thailand, Laos, and China. Beetle wings are collected as a by-product of this food industry, as communities are able to generate additional income and economic opportunities by selling the iridescent elytra as decorations for clothing and jewellery.
We were inspired to breathe new life into these materials, and showcase the beauty and value of utilising natural resources and transforming waste-products into art. Moreover, by supporting these enterprises we can help contribute to local livelihoods and promote sustainable development.
