The Basket Room is a contemporary interiors brand with an emphasis on ethical production, natural materials, traditional African craft and stylish design.
Co-founded by Camilla and Holly, The Basket Room works closely with small farming communities in Africa, who in times of drought turn to the art of weaving as a sustainable second income. By purchasing one of our baskets you help preserve this age-old tradition, passed down from grandmother to granddaughter.
Every basket is handmade - from the harvesting of the grass to the rolling, dyeing and weaving. All dyes used are natural wherever possible and some baskets are one-off, totally unique designs.
Both practical and beautiful, these baskets can be used as a decorative storage in any room of the home. Ideal for pot plants, toiletries, kitchen vegetables, bread, office stationery, laundry or for strapping to your bike. A perfect gift for the textile lover, or a simple way to bring a splash of colour to your own home.
Working directly with the womens' cooperatives, The Basket Room is committed to its artisans and recognising their stunning work.
The spirit of The Basket Room
Every woven basket has been worked on exclusively by one weaver, and each basket is their very own work of art before it becomes yours. Woven meticulously over a number of days, your basket has accompanied its creator on their daily errands from home to field to farm, enabling the weavers to earn a precious second income without having to give up their other jobs and responsibilities.
We’ve searched far and wide to partner up with the most remarkable artisans and networks of weaving cooperatives in Africa. We’re proud and privileged to regularly spend time with them all - getting to know the people, the raw materials and the harvesting, dyeing and weaving processes, first-hand.
