Tanner Bates are traditional leatherworkers. Everything you see is handmade by our small team of artisan craftspeople in Dartington, South Devon.

Stainless Steel Hip Flask bound and hand stitched in stunning Italian leather. Choose from 5 original designs depicting some of our favourite summer adventures.

Variations

Choose from 5 different designs depicting some of our favourite activities. All inspired by our love of Devon and exploring the outdoors.

The leather has a full grain finish which means that every blemish or scar on the cows skin will be present on the finished hide and apparent on the finished product. The hides are dyed by hand at the tannery with an aniline dye. This process allows the grain and all the individual markings on the cows skin to show through. The dye is absorbed into the hide in an irregular way so giving a unique appearance to every belt. No two are exactly the same.

Made from

Stainless steel flask, funnel and gift box. The flask is bound in stunning Italian full grain leather, hand stitched.

The natural leather will soon deepen in colour and age to show the rich patina unique to how the flask is used. Any little spillages will mark the leather, but with time, use and care, and with every application of Hide Food and Liquid Wax, your Tanner Bates Hip Flask will take on the look of familiar vintage leather that we all love so much.

The Italian full grain bark tanned leather is crafted in Florence by artisan tanners. At this family owned tannery they still practice the ancient method of tanning with bark from mimosa and chestnut trees rather than chemicals to slowly transform the hides into leather. The slow process of bark tanning yields a leather with a smell and patina reminiscent of a time past.

Natural leather will be kept in good supple condition and last longer if it is treated from time to time with a good quality Hide Food and dressed with a liquid wax. Polish with a horsehair brush.
