Bold and bright hand embroidery with something to say!
Hi, I'm Charlotte and I’m the woman behind Modern Floss.
My embroidery studio specialises in contemporary typographic embroideries that incorporate hand painting and are inspired by real life experiences. There's a big nod to feminism in many of my pieces. Made for excellent women!
My embroidery journey began when I had the misfortune of being diagnosed and treated for cervical cancer. After the treatment I needed time to recover and began crafting to help. I decided I was going to learn a new craft for every month of the year, but I ended up enjoying embroidery so much that I stopped on the third month!
It's for this reason that the embroidery of Modern Floss has a female theme. When I started making I was processing a lot of emotions and had things to say about my experience. I decided to stitch them down to bring some positivity out of the situation, but also with the hope that other people may enjoy them too.
Texture and movement
I like experimenting with my embroidery, that's why I often add paint and use non traditional stitches. This creates a contrast in textures and adds movement which I love.
All of the original pieces I make are by hand so no one piece will be exactly the same. It's all completely unique!
