Our sleeveless Nicole nightdress is a design rooted in the treasured Victorian nightgowns of the late 19th century, when fine white cottonwork and delicate handwork were the mark of a well-loved trousseau. Cut from the softest 100% Indian cotton, this sleeveless nightdress is designed for warm, restful nights, light and breathable against the skin, with none of the tight underarm seams that plague ordinary nightwear. A generous, floaty A-line skirt falls to mid-calf, gathering gently below a square decorative bodice panel that is the true heart of the design. That panel is where the antique inspiration really shows: fine pintuck pleats run the length of the front, framed by broderie anglaise embroidery and finished with mother-of-pearl buttons - the same small, considered details a Victorian seamstress would have stitched by hand. A square neckline and softly gathered straps complete the silhouette, echoing the chemises and nightgowns worn beneath layers of Victorian dress. At Lunn Antiques we’ve been making luxury vintage-inspired nightwear since 1976, drawing on our family’s love of antique textiles and original Victorian and Edwardian garments. Every design begins with a genuine period piece — the pintucking, the broderie anglaise, the mother-of-pearl fastenings are all details we’ve carried forward from originals in our own collection, reworked in soft, breathable cotton for modern life.
