Slow fashion that's helping us to get young girls into school.
Thanks for dropping by the Maykher notonthehighsteet.com shop!
We're a small and independent profit with purpose company. We vow to work with makers, not machines, and to favour ethical employment and fair wages over fast fashion for fewer pennies.
We're passionate about equality and the education of girls in the developing world, knowing that education is a viable tool to end poverty. To support this we're investing at least 10% of our profits into getting more young girls and women into school.
We believe in championing beautifully authentic craft techniques. Many of our items are created using skills passed down through generations, meaning pieces are rich with culture. Every purchase is helping us harness the talents of our partners and makers. We want to ensure that they can thrive and flourish even whilst living in some of the world's most impoverished areas. Every purchase is helping us get more girls into school.
We're so much more than another fashion company...
Our mission is split in two. First is to provide fairly paid and ethical employment opportunities, harnessing talents in cultural crafts and/or providing trade skills encouraging personal and professional development.
Our work with our artisan groups is channelled towards empowerment and sustainability as opposed to charity. This approach not only allows makers, who have previously lived in poverty, to take control of their futures, raising themselves and their families above the poverty line, but most importantly keeping themselves above it over a long term basis.
The second half and our reason for being, it is designed to address the international inequalities surrounding education. Statistics show that there are approximately 62 million girls out of education world wide. Our plan is to reinvest at least 10% of our profits back into communities in developing areas and specifically educating their girls.
