About
Naturally British. A celebration of British wool through a unique range of hand-made laundry and body care products. Handmade in Yorkshire.
Our story began in 2015, not with a grand business plan, but with a pile of laundry. Like many parents of young children, I seemed to spend a large portion of my life washing clothes. To speed up drying times, I bought a set of plastic dryer balls. They were noisy, didn't last very long and eventually ended up in the bin. It felt like there had to be a better solution. Living in Ilkley, I regularly walked on the moor surrounded by sheep and started to wonder whether wool could provide a natural alternative. As an avid felter, I began experimenting with British wool and discovered that felted wool dryer balls softened laundry naturally, reduced drying times and could last for years. Rather than hiding the wool, I decided to celebrate it. Inspired by the sheep grazing on the Yorkshire hillsides around me, I started creating dryer balls that looked like the breeds from which the wool had come. The very first flock featured the Swaledale sheep. Those original sheep-shaped dryer balls became the foundation of Little Beau Sheep.
Since then, the business has grown into much more than a laundry brand. Today our range includes wool dryer balls, felted soaps, wool and cashmere care products, lanolin body care and home fragrances. We even have an official Aardman licensed collaboration with Shaun the Sheep! Everything we create is inspired by the natural benefits of British wool and made with sustainability, quality and provenance at its heart.
But our mission extends far beyond the products themselves. Britain produces millions of kilos of wool every year, yet much of it is worth very little to the farmer. At the same time, our homes and wardrobes are increasingly filled with synthetic materials derived from fossil fuels. We believe British wool offers part of the solution. Wool is renewable, biodegradable, naturally durable and incredibly versatile. It has been used for centuries, yet many people are unaware of the role it can still play in modern life. Through Little Beau Sheep, we aim to reconnect consumers with the story behind wool and demonstrate practical ways it can be used every day.
