Lander & May is an artisan globemaking company based in the coastal town of Cowes.
Chris Adams, founder, has a Fine Art background and many years of globemaking experience. During his career he has made globes for museums, galleries, private collectors, and film and TV.
Each globe is made in the traditional way from scratch by Chris, from making the plaster ball to applying printed map artwork, often hand tinting, sealing and varnishing. The globe furniture (woodwork and metalwork) is produced by skilled craftsmen to our specifications; sometimes we even upcycle well made pieces from salvage that deserve another chance to shine.
Britain has a rich craft industry, and we are proud to be a part of it and support it. We therefore only use British components for all our products.
One of our aims in developing this range of globes is to breathe new life into historical reproduction, making the pieces more accessible, we have reinterpreted their presentation, without straying too far from the originals, to give a lighter, classically elegant feel that will sit comfortably in any home, but without compromising their authenticity.
Our globes are not toys, but handled with care, will last for generations, becoming family heirlooms of the future.
