Since moving to Cornwall I have acquired an obsession with re-creating in physical form what I feel in an emotional form whenever I look at, or am in, the sea. Creating paintings and objects that when looked at, held or cuddled-up to, evoke those feelings I get of tranquility, release, joy and weightlessness; my mind is clear and my heart is light. ?
I keep the way I work as similar to the nature of water and the sea as possible, using ink, watercolour and materials that allow the constant flow and movement of colour. These materials require me to work quickly, not to dwell upon decisions and to move swiftly - transient like the tide - keeping the whole process fresh and invigorating I often work on glass as well as fabric, intentionally not letting the inks and colours dry, but photographing them as they're moving, flowing and blending, creating little snapshots of the sea. ?
With an emphasis on quality and integrity, I source the best UK-made materials and take pride that my fabric and cushion designs are painted by hand. Each piece is either painted, sewn and made by me in my Cornish studio or my designs are printed onto natural cottons, velvets and linens using state of the art printing technology, every brush stroke and vivid colour blend is captured enhancing the feel of the hand-painted designs. My pieces have a strong sense of place and provenance adding to the feeling of exclusivity.
