Handmade feminine jewellery, made to worn with love.
Elin Mair makes delightfully dainty feminine jewellery made from a fascinating contemporary material: Precious Metal Clay (PMC). PMC is a combination of organic binders, water and microscopic particles of silver.
Working with PMC is quite different from traditional silversmithing as it requires a different set of skills, ones that tap into those of potters and sculptors, and is ultimately more environmentally friendly. The pieces are individually formed into a desired shape, dried, sanded and then fired in a kiln. The firing process removes the binder and fuses the metal into a solid form.
Based in an area of outstanding natural beauty; the Llyn Peninsula, it allows Elin to easily draw in inspiration from her natural surroundings. Although she has no formal background in making jewellery or silversmithing she completed a short course in London and continued on her learning curve in her spare time.
