How to plan a stag do in 5 simple steps

Read our guide to find out how to organise the most legendary stag do from start to finish, including budget tips and a super handy admin checklist.

  1. Find out the groom's ‘dos’ and ‘don'ts’

Before you plan the most scandalous, raucous stag do ever, we recommend checking in with the groom and finding out what he *actually* wants. Ask him whether he wants to go abroad, who he’d like to invite, dates to avoid and anything he definitely doesn’t want to do. He might even fancy a ‘sten’. That’s a combined stag and hen do, btw.

2. Consider who pays for the stag do

Typically for stag dos, each groomsman will pay for their own share of the event. And, sometimes they’ll also cover the cost of the groom’s share. To work out the numbers it’s really important to be upfront with the groomsmen and gauge how much everyone can comfortably afford so that no one gets priced out or feels uncomfortable.

You’ll also want to chat to the groom to find out how much he feels happy with everyone paying as he may prefer something a bit more low-key to an expensive holiday.

3. Pin down the destination and activities early

Trust us – don’t leave it to the last minute. We recommend pinning down the destination of your stag at least a few months in advance to make sure everyone can be there. Once that’s done, you can plan out your activities and gauge what people are up for, whether it’s driving like 007 or making a sword for the groom. Yes, we really do have pretty much any experience you can think of.

4. Keep on top of the admin

Ah admin. Virtually no-one likes doing it but sadly, it’s a crucial part of organising your stag. To help you out, here are some things to add to the stag checklist:

  • Create a Whatsapp group with everyone except the groom (so you can plan in secret and share embarrassing pics of him)

  • Send out clear invites and get people to RSVP

  • Clearly lay out costs so everyone’s on the same page

  • Give clear deadlines for when everyone will need to make payments

  • Check in regularly with reminders so that no-one forgets

5. Get your accessories and outfits in advance

Here’s your reminder not to leave buying any gifts or accessories too late. No really, don’t do it! Instead, plan out what you’d like to get the groomsmen well in advance, whether it’s matching socks, bespoke pint glasses or ‘lads on tour’ wristbands. Basically anything that’ll make for iconic photos.

In need of some more stag do inspo? Oh, we’ve so got you covered.
