About
From my workshop in the Forest of Bowland, I hand craft unique wooden toys for children to love and treasure across many generations.
Hello! I’m Selina, aka Dr Hellion. I founded Hellion Toys in 2017 after finishing my PhD in Design.
I hand craft my toys, blending traditional tools and methods with contemporary craft technologies to bring Hellion’s high quality, durable and eco-friendly collections to life.
When I'm not cutting, engraving or sanding wood I’m busy hand-finishing each toy. I dye, paint and varnish my creations with great care to make sure they are ready to leave the workshop and begin their adventures in the world. You’ll notice that I add little details and unique elements; part of what makes your Hellion collection so special is that no two pieces are exactly alike.

I take my role and responsibilities within the heritage craft of toymaking seriously. I aim to keep a low carbon footprint by sourcing materials locally from other independent businesses, typically within 20 miles of my workshop. I also avoid petroleum-derived paints, finishes and plastics of any kind. My collection is entirely plastic-free, solvent-free, VOCs-Free and BPA-free. My toys are vegan-friendly and gentle to the natural environment.
All my toys are independently lab safety tested and certified CE. I am a member of the Heritage Craft Association and the British Toymakers Guild who uphold the very highest standards of craftsmanship and design.
