Ground Designs is a project of graphic Art Prints inspired by iconic architectural and structural elements of Football Grounds and Stadiums, mostly British and with a nostalgia for the 80's, when my obsession for football grounds began.
I'd already visited loads of grounds by the time I began work as a structural steelwork draughtsman in my late teens, working on an old school drawing board with pencil, set square, scale rule, etc. - a combination I still use to this day as the starting point for my designs.
The idea for Ground Designs came about a couple of years ago when I saw a beautiful old structural drawing of the famous criss-cross balcony at Goodison Park and decided to recreate it in a digital format just for fun.
I liked the fact that it was a piece of "football art" without any obvious references, but that would still make sense to those in the know, something that people might actually want to hang in their home, or office, rather than the usual garish football print offer.
