Artist & Maker

Light Relief in a Serious World. Gifts to bring a chuckle and art to make a house a home.

I worked as a fashion designer & illustrator for many years, trained in graphic design & fashion. Created my own clothing brand sold in Topshop & worldwide while working freelance for well-known brands. After 10 years in London, I relocated, had a daughter and studied Illustration at Manchester School of Art. I reevaluated my career becoming drawn to everyday people and less idealism. I would sketch on location and create lifestyle drawings of people in coffee houses. As I gained recognition I began tagging them with 'Cherie did this'.

Throughout this time I was running a shop in my home town and enjoyed chatting with people. I started to understand what the best gifts were and began designing my own. Influenced by my fashion background and my collection of kitsch & vintage memorabilia / tat I've hoarded over the years. I am always looking to put a twist on something recognisable, combining it with a function ..be it a print, pencil case, wash bag or tea towel. I love the idea of gifts being Smile Makers.

Pimp my Pet Portraits hark (bark) back to days when I worked as a stylist. The dogs in my illustrations often represent people and I enjoy the irony. I'm inspired by people watching and I love the way pets often look like their owners. Pets are a wonderful way of bringing innocent fun.

Cherie Jerrard

Award-winning Artist with a BTEC & Degree in Fashion and an MA in Illustration

The design process starts with something that I'm into ... be it the sausage rolls ( I love dachshunds on skateboards) or the fluffy every cloud making kits which are a crafters delight ! My mind is like a butterfly constantly being pulled by a new exciting concept. I always have a new design up my sleeve. Influenced by interior designers, artists and lifestyle my mind is buzzing and I rarely switch off which is why I'm always writing Slow Down or Do Less on my Prints. The Cloud Kits are a good way of calming busy minds like mine. My work is also my play so I have fun with what I do. My goal is not to take life too seriously.

Sustainability is very important to me having worked in the fashion industry for many years, whenever possible my products are made locally...ever-evolving from the town of Darwin here in the UK.
