Every piece of calligraphy art I make has one purpose: to bring absolute delight to its new owner. Calligraphy's a slow, thoughtful craft where every letter is written with care, every illustration designed to complement the words around it. It's my world - meticulously written, made with love.

I taught myself to write calligraphy twenty years ago. Since then my dining room has evolved into a busy creative space with adjustable tilting desks, paper stores and hundreds of nibs, inks and paints! I’ve written in calligraphy all over the walls and yes, it really does spark joy!
I write poems and song lyrics, family trees and wedding stationery and calligraphy quotes. My tools are a proper old school dip pen and metal nib, with dippy ink pots and specialist art papers. Every new calligraphy project is exciting, and I love working with people to create those really special unique gifts, which become family heirlooms over time.
I came home to Cumbria and live by the beach, on a part of the coastline which has incredible views of the Lake District fells. Having nature on my doorstep inspires my art, the way I run my business, and the calligraphy pieces I write and illustrate for you.

My calligraphy has been featured in Kirstie Allsopp’s Vintage Home books and TV series - a really exciting highlight for me! I met Kirstie at The Handmade Fair where I taught 150 people to write modern calligraphy over the course of a weekend. It was the most wonderful chaos and fun. I will never, ever teach that many people all at once again… did I mention I only had half an hour?
‘Rest’ for me is a 5 mile long, 800 metre high hike up a mountain or three. I’ve walked all 214 of the Wainwright fells in the Lakes, and 116 more ‘Outlying Fells’, some more than once. I hope to keep going until I’m in my eighties.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been a self employed calligrapher for 20 years now. The freedom and creative lifestyle are a dream come true. I love my job, and my life here on the edge of the Lake District.
