Ren Ellery is a designer and illustrator who uses fabric and stitch to create unique pet portraits. Her family are the proud owners to two beagles. Evie joined them as a pup, whilst Ralph was a rescue beagle from Beagle Welfare (a wonderful charity who rehome beagles)
Originally inspired by drawing her own beagles, Ren now creates a range of appliqued and embroidered dogs, cats, popular pets and wildlife on a range of textile and paper products.
Her bespoke portraits of pets are created using hand cut fabrics which she then adds stitched lines and texture to using her sewing machine as a pencil. She cuts each piece of fabric to develop each unique portrait, then adds the stitched lines by eye, without the use of templates or traced lined. Her compositions, use of space and shape lead to beautiful pet portraits that are intricately detailed and filled with character. It is a time consuming process but the final results are then both unique and totally personal.
