Variations
Use your colour block storage basket as a planter for small cacti or as a flower pot for your indoor succulents. Larger sizes make great storage baskets for toiletries, toys and jewellery to slippers, knitting and pens and pencils.
These sustainably produced storage baskets are handwoven from local sisal grass by a member of one of four rural women's weaving cooperatives in South Western Kenya. Fibres are hand-dyed outside in vats of boiling water, then left to dry naturally before the weaving work begins.
The women of these cooperatives are mainly subsistence farmers, so weaving is carried out mainly during the dry seasons when farming work slows down. The timeless craft of basket weaving offers these communities the chance to earn a vital second income during times of drought.
