Timeless, handcrafted jewellery made in South London from recycled sterling silver, blending contemporary and traditional craftsmanship.
My name is Sonja, and I am the designer-maker behind every piece of Sonja Bessant Jewellery. Working in sterling silver, I carefully design and handcraft each design myself, ensuring exceptional quality and meticulous attention to detail at every stage.
I’m based in Balham, South London, and also work from a shared jewellery workshop in Camberwell, where I continue to refine my craft with likeminded creatives. Jewellery has always been part of my life — I grew up in a family of jewellers, living above a jewellery shop, surrounded daily by gemstones, tools, and craftsmanship. That early immersion sparked a lifelong passion.
With over 15 years of experience, I am still learning, evolving, and discovering new techniques regularly — something I truly love about this craft. Creating jewellery isn’t just my profession; it’s my passion, and I feel incredibly fortunate to share that with you.
Every piece is made using recycled sterling silver and presented in sustainable packaging, reflecting my commitment to thoughtful, responsible craftsmanship. When you purchase from me, you can trust that your jewellery has been individually made and personally checked by my own hands.

Well, since you've asked ...
1. I could lose an entire day in my workshop and call it pure happiness.
2. I swim year-round at my local lido in Tooting — cold water, clear head, happy heart.
3. I’ve been practising hot yoga for decades and still love the challenge.
4. I have three children… although one is now officially a grown-up.
5. I was born in Germany and once got a D in English at 13 — proof that things can improve.
6. I’ve lived in London for over 30 years and now call myself British, well sometimes.
7. Before jewellery, I worked as an event manager — which explains my love of organisation and a good checklist.
8. A school career adviser once told me I could never be a jeweller. I can’t draw. But believe me ,there're ways around that.
9. Jewellery runs in my blood — I grew up above my parents’ jewellery shop, and both sets of grandparents owned a jewellery shop too.
10. I love a well-made whiskey sour and adore ice skating… even if I spend more time wobbling than gliding.
