Japanese Cotton Machine Washable Slippers Brown

This cotton pongee (Tsumugi) fabric is very slowly woven by vintage shuttle looms.

Not much has changed over 100 years at the small mill in Enshu which is one of Japan's important textile bases.

Traditional shuttle looms require highly-skilled manual operation.

Its finished fabrics are less smooth but has rich and airy texture.

Many neps (the irregularities such as lumps) are also seen on the fabric.

These days, shuttle looms are mostly replaced by the shuttleless alternatives to weave faster, uniformly, and saving labour.
