Quirky and Colourful Hand-made Leather Accessories
Hi, I’m Jo. I design and make all my leather accessories from a Victorian potting shed in Essex.
Although I have always been creative, I first fell in love with leather working when I went back to college to study shoemaking. I loved designing and stitching the most, and after finishing my course I felt that my skills were better placed in designing and making fashion accessories and jewellery.
I try to be as sustainable as I possibly can, I only buy leather that is a by-product of the food industry and sourced by reputable, established leather merchants.
Maintaining a no-waste attitude to my work is important to me. I will often use off-cuts, scraps and recycled leather from vintage fashion garments that would otherwise be destined for landfill.
I love colour. It brightens my day, lifts my mood, and makes me smile. It goes without saying that my designs reflect this along with my love of animals, nature, and illustration.
Thank you for visiting my shop, I hope it made you smile.
My Unique Technique
In 2018 I went back to college to study shoe making. During this time I experimented with applying patterns to my leather uppers. I wanted my shoes to be one thickness, so instead of using the more popular technique of appliqué, I developed my own unique leather marquetry technique. This involves cutting each piece of leather precisely by hand with a scalpel and fitting them together, rather like a jigsaw. Then each piece is carefully stitched to bond all the pieces together, making it more durable. Once stitched it’s checked and given the finishing touches before posting. Everything I make in the studio is made by hand, so every item is slightly different, making it extra special.
Each order comes in a cotton gift bag and posted in a cardboard posting box, via a 1st class sign for service.
I aim to post within 3 days of order, please contact me if you require a faster service.
