Clematis ‘Crystal Fountain’ (Evipo038) is a standout example of contemporary clematis breeding, developed by Raymond Evison to combine spectacular floral detail with a compact, garden-friendly habit. This variety is especially prized for its architectural flowers, which offer a level of intricacy rarely seen in climbing plants.
The blooms are large and fully double, composed of broad outer petals in a cool lilac-blue shade with a silky, light-reflective finish. At the heart of each flower sits its signature feature: a dense spray of narrow, silvery-lilac staminodes that rise upwards like a fountain in motion. This creates an opulent, multi-layered effect that adds depth, texture, and movement to the display. As the flowers mature, the subtle shifts in tone give the plant an ever-changing, jewel-like quality.
Clematis ‘Crystal Fountain’ grows to a compact height of approximately 1.2–1.5 metres, with a spread of around 60–90cm. Its large, double flowers can reach up to 12–15cm across and are produced continuously throughout the summer months. Thanks to its neat and controlled habit, this variety is ideally suited to pots, containers, and smaller supports such as obelisks and trellis panels. Its size allows it to deliver impressive vertical interest while remaining well balanced and easy to manage in limited spaces.
