This original French travel poster was designed by the Marc Chagall in the 1960's. This beautiful, vibrant and colourful poster shows Romeo and Juliet floating across the Parisian skyline with famous landmarks including the Arc de Triumph in the background. Painted in Chagall's typical style, with a real dreamy and mythical feel.
The poster shows a detail from the ceiling of the Paris Opera House, which Marc Chagall was commissioned to design. Chagall was a very sympathetic artist and as there was an existing painted ceiling at the Opera House he did not want to paint over this and insisted on having a floating ceiling put up on which he would paint his piece.
The poster shows the details of the printer that printed it in the bottom right hand border.
Like most posters of this period it was printed to the highest of standards. Known as a lithographic poster, lithography was a highly skilled process, and very time consuming. It gradually fell out of favour for these reasons. The finished product was a beautifully clear image, which gives the poster a painterly feel.
Original posters are highly collectable, and also make beautiful art for your walls. They have steadily risen in value and collectability over the past 30 years, and are now seen as a hot and trendy investment. Vintage posters are sure to hold their value, or rise in value over the coming years.
