These beautiful colour block laundry baskets are woven from doum palm leaf in the Turkana region of Kenya and boast a broad, raspberry pink band to the lower section.
Around 300 women from six villages work together in a fair trade cooperative to produce these laundry baskets, taught to weave by their own mothers and grandmothers.
Turkana is a region of Kenya that suffers from persistent drought, making it very difficult to earn a reliable income from agricultural work. In purchasing a fair trade laundry basket from us you support these women in supporting themselves and their families.
These lidded laundry baskets are sustainable in more ways than one: you can use them all over the home for years to come. Use yours to store linen or towels, blankets and rugs, logs and kindling, or children's toys.
