About

Hi, I’m Charlie – the one-woman band behind Stitchsperation.

Stitchsperation began in 2016, but the idea actually started with a wedding gift for a very cool Swedish friend. I was on a tight budget and decided to make something myself. At the time, inspirational quotes over watercolour backgrounds were everywhere on Pinterest, and I wondered… what if I stitched words over a painted watercolour background instead?

I wanted the colour to become part of the design rather than just a plain backdrop.

As I stitched the piece (which boldly read “Shit Just Got Real”), I realised something surprising – there was nothing quite like it in the cross stitch world. That moment sparked an idea. I spent the next year designing patterns and experimenting with different ways to paint fabric so the colours would stay vibrant and colourfast. After plenty of testing, experimenting and stitching, Stitchsperation officially launched in 2016. Since then, my designs have evolved, and my range has grown to include chunky cross stitch kits as well as regular cross stitch kits.

Modern Cross Stitch for Creative Minds

Cross stitch has a long and wonderful history, but I’ve always been drawn to modern design – bold typography, bright colours and contemporary style. When I started Stitchsperation there wasn’t a huge amount of modern cross stitch around, so I wanted to create kits that felt fresh, fun and a little bit different.

My inspiration comes from all over the place – Pinterest, books, social media and the random ideas that pop into my head at the most unexpected moments. I work with a strict brand colour palette, which I actually love because it challenges me to use the same colours in new and creative ways.

Most designs begin digitally before being converted into cross stitch patterns, although recently I’ve started sketching ideas by hand first – which has been a lot of fun.

Designed and Assembled in the UK

Every Stitchsperation kit is designed and assembled by me in the UK.

Each kit includes everything you need to complete your project, including a printed colour pattern with instructions, needles, canvas or plastic canvas, and enough beautiful UK-made Appletons wool to stitch the design. Everything is packaged in either a luxury gift box or a branded cotton gift bag, making the kits perfect for gifting.

Whether you’re completely new to cross stitch, returning to a creative hobby, or already an experienced stitcher, the kits are designed to be relaxing, colourful and enjoyable to make.

Creative Gifts (or a Treat for Yourself)

Stitchsperation kits make thoughtful gifts for creative friends and family, but they’re also perfect for anyone looking to step away from the screen and enjoy a mindful moment with needle and thread.

One of my current favourite designs is the circular coaster kit with a silver edge. Each kit includes a full alphabet chart and extra design elements so you can create your own personalised monogrammed coaster – a little project that’s both practical and beautiful.
