Cu Mai Knife Making

Day One is spent learning how to make your own pattern-welded copper & steel billet. You will learn about the ancient art of pattern welding and begin the process of carefully heating the copper to weld in between the high carbon steel. A member of team will carefully work alongside you to achieve the desired pattern. Once the billet has been formed, the exciting reveal of the pattern is made when a rough-cut shape of the knife is made and ground away.

Day Two is when it all gets very exciting and the final stages of making your Cu-Mai Knife come together. Any final detail on the blade is made just before you learn how to heat treat it and polish the blade. It is at this stage when the true unique pattern is revealed.

Our chef creates hearty, wholesome lunches using ingredients from local suppliers, proudly supporting the businesses in our community.

Savour your meal in the lively atmosphere of the café, retreat to the cosy Forge Den, or soak up the countryside views from our Woodlands Huts. Alongside your lunch, enjoy hot or cold drinks, indulgent cakes, and tempting snacks. all crafted or sourced from producers we are proud to support.

We work with a number of B&B’s, hotels & campsites who we know will look after you during your time with us.

Our Cu-Mai Workshop Does Allow A Max Of Two People To Work Together To Make One Knife, Although You Are More Than Welcome To Attend As A Solo. The Perfect Gift For An Individual or Couple.

Want to take your knife a step further? Add a third day to your experience and learn how to make and fit your own wooden handle. This is an optional extra and isn't included in the standard course.

Our hands-on handle-making workshop gives you the opportunity to turn the blade you forged with us into a complete knife. Working primarily with traditional hand tools, you'll shape and fit your own handle, finishing your knife to a standard you can be proud of.

Choose from our selection of exotic woods, available to purchase on the day, to give your knife a distinctive finish and make it truly your own.

VOUCHER: All voucher purchases come complete with a digital e-voucher, which is sent to you via the NOTHS platform and can be printed at home or forwarded on. If you experience any problems with receiving your e-voucher please contact NOTHS customer services directly.

However, for £5 extra, you can choose a premium postal voucher – perfect to put inside a card. If you’d like the premium printed option, simply select that as an add-on when buying your voucher.
