Lovely marine Japanese woodblock print of ocean waves, printed in three blues and silver ink. A wonderful gift for people who like the sea.
This is a rare Japanese art print that shows the jiggling movement of ocean waves, through curved intersecting lines of varying widths. In art theory the concept of the most beautiful curve is the opposite to the curve of a circle. The most beautiful curve should be varying in angle and irregular. This ocean wave art print is packed with beautiful curves.
The print would make a great gift for someone who likes abstract art, patterns, the sea and Japanese design. It might particularly suit a young person's decor, as it's quite modern-looking and easy on the eye, with cool tones and striking silver ink.
The artwork is roughly a5 in size and would go in a nook nicely / somewhere you could admire it close-up, like a hall, landing, stairway, WC or office/studio. From a distance you get a different effect from the print - the dark blue eddies take over and the silver ink becomes more subtle.
The art print was reprinted in Japan in the 1960s. Its first print-run was in the early 1900s. It was created by a master Japanese designer for a design magazine that featured original handmade prints.
Choose to have this art print arrive in three ways, as is, simply a piece of paper; mounted (sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 " / 25.4 x 20.3 cms frame) or framed. The black and gold frame pictured is made from responsibly sourced timber with real glass from Dunhelm.
Advice for hanging: original artwork should not be hung above radiators / heat sources, nor in damp or steamy rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms or conservatories.
