Very few automotive inspired watches can claim to have been designed by a car designer. Most automotive tie-ins come from a brand association, and that about as far as it goes, but to actually have the same pen designing a watch that designed a car is rare. Enter the talent Matthew Humphries, the gifted young designer who, at the age of 21, became the Head of Design at the Morgan Motor Company and can be attributed for the stunning Aeromax and Supersports.
After leaving Morgan, Matthew set up his own consultancy, and then in 2014 established MHD watches to combine his love of design with his passion for watches.
Designed and built in the UK, MHD watches truly encapsulate automotive design with luxury to produce an elegant timepiece that befit both contemporary and classic car lovers.
Motoring watches: MHDSQ1 daily driver" watch & MHDCR1 Chronograph, which "could have been born in the Golden Era of Motorsport"
The First MHD motoring watch, the SQ1, features a simple, uncluttered dial that bears more than a passing resemblance to the rev counter of a 1970’s Porsche 911. Limited in production to just 300 examples, these can be had on a variety of differing straps depending on your mood and style.
The latest addition to the range, the CR1 Chronograph, can be had with standard face, or the new Panda dial (contrasting sub dials). Slim lithe, cut out hands allow the wearer to just glance at the information displayed whilst still in control of their machine, and the beautiful engineered quality of the stainless steel case and knurled push buttons and crown evoke the style of classic race car and you are on the right lines.
