Product description

A beautiful example of her 'Red Flash' range from Tythegston Pottery. Hand thrown and carved from high-fired stoneware, with rich stoneware 'chun' blue glaze.

This is a clever and unusual butter dish. The butter is packed into the 'lid' and in the base there is a small amount of water which keeps it fresh. This is a traditional French design, interpereted in my own style. .So many butter dishes take a lot of table space and you also have to find space to put down a greasy lid. This version neatly avoids all those problems. It means you can enjoy wonderful, healthy natural butter which you can spread, because it isn't solid from the fridge.Tbey hold a standard 250g pack of butter.

These make wonderful practical and special gifts for anyone who likes food or enjoys the good things in life.

The way they work is that the water covers the exposed end of the butter and creates an air lock so the air can't each the butter to oxidise it and turn it sour. You only need a very little water in the bottom (about half a centimeter), just enough so when you draw out the 'lid' containing the butter, you can see the water mark on the tip of the outside of the lid.

Hand thrown at my South Wales studio, in rich stoneware with stunning sky-blue 'Chun' glaze. I develop all my own glazes and this glaze has a history of over 1400 years. The 'Chun' blue colour develops because the glaze reflects blue light into the eye giving a depth and richness that a pigment cannot supply. ' Chun glazes are very fluid, and during firing they run down the wall of the pot, giving a rich build up of glaze at the bottom of the piece. This gives depth and complexity to the surface. Dishwasher and microwave safe.

These are all indivdually thrown and carved and glazed, so each one is unique and will not be identical to the image shown.
