Lupin – this particular variety grows to around 40cm tall and is ideal for the front of a sunny border. It has white, pink and blue flowers. By sowing seeds over several weeks it can provide a continual show of flowers from June to October. Sow outdoors March-May or August to October. Later sowings mean they will flower the following year.
Foxglove – they are a mixed colour and look best in the back of the border to add some height, colour and texture. They will grow to around 90-120cm tall and will flower from May to June. They are biennial which means they will flower in the second year after planting. They are happy in a sunny or shady border and may self seed which means free plants the following year. Sow indoors February-April or sow outdoors April-July.
Cosmos – another annual flower loved by butterflies and bees. This variety grows to 40cm tall and will look fabulous in the middle/front of the border, next the Lupins to create more texture. They will bloom from June to October (or first frosts) and have pretty pink and rose coloured petals which fade to white as they mature. Sow indoors February-April or sow outdoors April-May.
Forget-me-nots have blue flowers from April to June. They look lovely with tulips in pots or the border. They grow to around 30cm tall and will self seed. Sow outdoors March-July.
Verbena bonariensis are tall with slender stems with a purple bobble type flower head. They grow to around 1.2m tall and are best suited to the back of the border. Loved by pollinators too. Sow indoors January-April.
The seeds can be simply scattered directly into the soil to make the growing process very simple – each pack includes specific and easy to follow instructions.
