This plate is an art object in its own right but also perfectly functional. Handmade one-off piece by Japanese designer maker.
The surface texture is very nuanced, and can be felt very dry, matte and coarse. It looks like an abstract art piece.
The caly used and firing method are somewhere between stoneware and porcelain, called Sekki in Japanese.
This plate is a beautiful object in its own right. It is also perfectly functional, bringing dramatic effect on any food served on it with its wide rim.
Food safe.

This item has hard coarse surface texture and is not as smooth. There are some unevenness and small dents, which won't affect functionality or neither we consider as flaw.
Please note that due to it's handmade nature, no two pieces are exactly alike in colour, shape and texture.

About the Artist: Sakurai Minako is a ceramic artist based in a mountain village of Nara, Japan. Minako's signature style includes the use of beautifully weathered surface textures, which she developed through trial and error. In her own words: "The firing is never the same. I am often amazed by results that are beyond my expectations, such as the colour of a darkening evening sky or cherry tree bark with a hint of pink. I prefer conjuring a serendipitous effect to a perfectly achieved intention."
