The humble Willow pattern gets a 21st Century make-over. Highlighting the problems that come with Globalisation.
This plate is as much a subversive piece of wall art as it is dinner party conversation piece. Get your dinner guests talking about the bigger questions when their plate is revealed after finishing their meal.
For two centuries the Willow Pattern has been the stock pattern of nearly every British Pottery manufacturer, at times its popularity has waned, I have endeavoured to bring it up to date by changing the stories into modern problems. Using a famous pattern that evokes recognition and nostalgia draws you in, and it takes a while before you realises that it is unfamiliar and that it is communicating a modern problem. The aim with this series of plates is to make mass-produced 'perfect' objects with which we have no connection, special and emotionally durable, turning something mass-produced into something meaningful.
