A set of Cufflinks made from upcycled antique Engine Turned Silver reset in modern sleek sterling silver. A stunning combination of ancient and modern.
Ideal for gentlemen who favour a sophisticated and suave appearance.
Also available in mid blue as guilloche enamel. Guilloché, phonetically pronounced gee-oh-SHAY, comes from the French and means "engine-turning." Guilloché refers to a series of patterns. Guilloché patterns can be found in architecture and banknotes.
We have taken the engine turned silver from a damaged antique Sterling Silver hairbrush and used the decently finished material to set into cufflinks. The intricacy of the patterning is very stylish and was popular in the early 20th century.
Engine Turning is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose engine lathe. This mechanical technique improved on more time-consuming designs achieved by hand and allowed for greater delicacy, precision, and closeness of line, as well as greater speed.
Mechnical engine turned pieces were created by engraving in metal, (mainly sterling Silver): producing fine timepieces (mainly pocket watches), fine pens, jewelry charms, snuffboxes, cigarette cases,hair-styling accessories and various other desirable items.
Also available in guilloche enamelled blue. Taken from a broken Dresser set.
