Fred's Bicycles is a boutique, retro bicycle company based in London and founded by school friends Jonny and Tom.
On a trip to Uganda in 2011 we came across the simple, elegant and robust models ubiquitous to rural East Africa. Over a bowl of noodles in Bermondsey we decided, to introduce a new type of bicycle to the UK; practical, sturdy and simple but also stylish, comfortable and affordable. Two and a half years later, we took delivery of our first order of bicycles and can't wait to grow our reputation as a premium quality but affordable cycling brand.
Our two bicycles; the Gentleman's Model I in British Racing Green and the Lady's Model I in Duck Egg Blue are remarkably adaptable. Their lightweight sturdiness makes them perfect for bike afficionados and leisure cyclists alike as they turn their pedals to everything from weekend excursions to the daily commute. With an optional basket, the perfect size for a packed lunch, the world is your oyster with a Fred's Bicycle at your side.
We are proud to share our profits with the charity Bicycles Against Poverty (BAP), which distributes bicycles throughout rural Uganda to improve access to markets, healthcare and education.
Delivering a bicycle is complex; they are relatively large, difficult to package and need to be assembled and checked.
So we have designed a system, unique to us, to make receiving your bicycle as cost-effective and simple as possible.
Here is how it works: when you make your order, we check to see if your area is covered by our network of partner bicycle shops. If it is, we give your local shop a call and arrange for them to receive your bicycle in a box already 85% assembled by us. They can then complete the assembly and carry out the final checks to make sure it is all in top working order before you pick it up. If your area is not covered by our network don't worry - we can add a new shop normally within 48 hours.
So, unlike receiving a box full of parts you saw online as a bicycle, you can just head over to your local bicycle shop whenever suits you to pick up your fully assembled, checked and tested steed. And the best bit? The price of assembly and tests is all included - we simply send you a message on your 'order enquiry' to let you know when your bicycle is ready for collection.
We do ask that you cover the cost of delivery to the shop, as this varies from place to place. We hope this seems fair to you.
