Drws y Coed (Door to the Woods) is an emerging brand that designs and manufactures lighting products from plywood and local Welsh timber. Focusing on sustainability and micro manufacturing opportunities provided by digital technologies, the products are highly patterned creating light effects akin to those experienced in the woods.
Hannah grew up in the Vale of Clwyd in a secluded wooded valley and it is the experience of light and woodlands that inform her designs, as well as an interest in Japanese architectural ideas about light and space.
Hannah studied a BA In Fine Art Textiles at Goldsmiths, London and an MSc in Light & Lighting at the Bartlett, University College London. She worked as an architectural lighting designer for 6 years before she began to pursue her wish to make things again. Combining design skills gained in architectural lighting and a love for pattern and perforations she is working on a range of product from the domestic to architectural scale.
Drws y Coed exhibited in 100% Design show at Earls Court 2013 and has been featured in the Icon magazine product section. She has recently taken part in exhibitions in Ruthin Craft Centre, Oriel Myrddin and Mission Gallery.
