Olivia graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a First Class honours degree in Contemporary Craft in 1999. Since than her work has been exhibited and sold worldwide.
Olivia specialises in sculptures of dogs and each piece is completely handmade, something Olivia feels very strongly about in a world of mass production which allows each and every piece to be truly unique. Being an avid dog lover and having owned a dog all her life ( at the moment she has an ageing greyhound called Edith) Olivia looks forward to each and every commission something which is evident in the final piece, ensuring whether it be given as a gift or bought as a special treat for yourself it will be treasured for years to come.
The sculptures are slab built out of a clay specially built for hand building large items around a purpose built frame. The clay is rolled out and applied to the frame and sculpted into the shape of the dog. As well as the form, capturing the character of the canine in question is very important to Olivia and is foremost in her mind when creating each individual piece.
Once dry the sculptures are fired to 1120 degrees and then various layers of high pigment stains applied in washes to achieve the desired depth of colouration .
From start to finish a model can take up to 6 weeks to produce, due to the drying time and processes involved. Individual commissions from photos and personalisations are possible. Please contact Olivia to find out the current lead times via the 'Ask Seller Question' button.
