The ginger and galbanum (originally from Middle East but part of the British herbalist’s lexicon since the Middle Ages or before), work as analgaesics, relaxing and warming over-wrought muscles, and dealing with bruising and swellings. Wintergreen with its distinctive, pungent aroma, was traditionally used for all chronic forms of muscle and joint troubles such as rheumatism, lumbago and sciatica.

Lavender helps with fatigue and calms frayed nerves. Rosemary, apart from being a useful antiseptic, revitalises. A simple blend that makes a good warm bath even more pleasurable and effective.
