Knitting is the most popular craft hobby in the UK. This wonderful pastime is being taken up by celebrities, youngsters, people from both sexes and all ethnicities.
The Purl Alpaca Designs knitting kits are exclusive, design-led and upmarket. Our fleece is sourced from local breeders (and our own herd); it is hand sorted and graded before being made into yarn by a specialist spinning mill. Only the best quality is used and we blend the natural fibres to create our wonderful colour range. We don’t dye the yarn. Environmentally aware; even our packaging is made from recycled materials.
As a beginner, making the step from knitting small accessories to making your first garment can seem daunting. The Iago waistcoat would be the ideal place to start! The waistcoat is knitted completely without shaping and with only three seams. Can’t get much easier! The variations in stitch texture using different combinations of knit and purl makes this a high end fashion item anyone would be proud to wear.

Purl Alpaca Designs' 100% pure alpaca yarn is not dyed, all the colours are completely natural and the fibre is sourced from local breeders. It is spun in England by a specialist spinning mill.
Once returned as yarn, Kari-Helene Rane knits swatch samples of different stitches which in turn, inspire her to create a design which complements both the natural drape and lustre of the yarn, plus the intricacies of the stitch. With both tailoring and knitting as her specialist subjects, Kari-Helene’s designs make truly statement pieces.
The names for Purl Alpaca Designs are chosen from cria (baby alpacas) born to our own herd and alpacas at Houghton Hall Alpacas in Cambridgeshire. The fleece from this award winning herd makes our yarn.
Once made, we recommend hand-washing as the best way to ensure your garment keeps shape and lasts for years. We do however provide Care Instructions which gives extra tips on how to look after your Purl Alpaca Design.
