Hello, I’m Katie, how lovely you’re here.
Having worked in the creative industries for over 20 years, both as a designer and educator, I founded What Katie did next in 2010. I trained and worked in fashion design, but have since built up a wealth of knowledge and skills in other disciplines. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been creating, and always yearned to do so within my own business. I now design and make gorgeous products that bring people joy – what more could a girl want?
I live in the Surrey hills with my wonderful husband and two small and very inspirational sons, who each give me so much joy. I am surrounded by the most beautiful countryside, and work from a studio in my back garden, which is filled with country cottage style flowers.
Ten years ago, I rid myself of all the black items from my wardrobe, I realised my safe colour (and one I learnt to wear whilst in the fashion business) was draining my energy. It won’t come as a surprise to you that I don’t include much, if any, black in any of my designs.
Inspired by how colour evokes feelings, I design and make a wide range of colourful, happy, thoughtful gifts and home accessories, which all have a positive message through careful use of colour and design. Every detail is chosen to complement the others. I love to illustrate, and turn my illustrations into items that will be treasured. The highest possible quality is achieved by using traditional methods alongside contemporary techniques.
What Katie did next customers are often people who require something a ‘little different’ from the usual offering. If you love colour and pattern, want to support small British businesses, and cherish hand-crafted gifts to give thoughtfully to others, you’re going to fit in around here!
Whether you’re looking for a special gift for a friend, something happy for your home, an anniversary gift that will be treasured, or a hen party gift to be remembered, we’ve got something for you.
