Beautiful organic porcelain bowls
Made from white porcelain, these pieces are formed by combining two shells. Working the porcelain to near paper fine thinness I am interested in seeing how delicate you can work with the porcelain while retaining its strength. The shells are made by hand pressing the clay into a mould & working to a fine finish. Once released from the mould the forms are joined together and go through the first first firing. After this firing copper oxide is applied to the edge of the shell, then back in for the high temperature firing.
The porcelain becomes soft during firing & moves in reaction to the form I have made. The finished piece will depend on how the combined bowls counter balance & react to each other, becoming an unique organic form. Finally they are hand sanded in order to achieve a smooth tactile surface.
A small single tea light shell sits loose inside the piece and can be used inside or separate to the piece.
White porcelain with copper oxide burnt into the edge. They are not food friendly due to the copper oxide edge and are unsuitable for the dishwasher.
The bowls are available in 4 different sizes
Small - 110-120mm dia x 75-85mm high
Medium -160-180mm dia x 100-110mm high
Large - 180-230mm dia x 110-130mm high
X- large - 250-300 mm dia x 140-160mm high
Due to the movement of the piece during firing the size is approximate
