Pursuit of Adventure

Wooden playhouses to spark imagination, creativity and adventure. Easy to build, easy to put away. Hours of fun. Sustainably sourced wood. Made in England.

Founder Ed Salisbury had a thought occur to him: why are children more attracted to iPads and phones now than they are tactile, immersive play? Space? Scope? What does technology offer that the more directly real hands-on toy cannot?

For him, childhood was about big-box castles, dens, treehouses, and rocket ships, all crafted by hand and guided by a primal intrigue in creation. The way Ed sees it, ‘children still love playing, building structures and making things...it just doesn’t always seem easy enough or practical enough within the family environment. The convenience of the screen has taken over’.

The idea behind these children's playhouses is to nurture the ethos of creativity and intrigue. Kids are naturally inclined to this hands-on exploration of the physical. Why don’t we make a child’s playhouse that can be formed as big or small as desired? Why can’t they build it themselves, without you having to ponder over fifty crinkled pages of an instruction manual that can’t quite be deciphered? Why should any of the family worry about where it’ll go?

With flat-pack and modular play, Pursuit of Adventure tidily resolves these issues. We create unbounded products that slot together in a variety of formations, allowing your child to create unique and exciting structures.

"I wanted to create a space, a product, an idea that allowed children to expand their imaginations and pursue adventure for real... "

Here’s a scene for you. One of your friends comes over. They’ve got a castle. You’ve got a castle. There’s only one thing for it: a mega castle. Two towers together, perhaps a portcullis. The compact, transportable structures make it easy for your kids to combine their creations with their friends’.

We’re talking end-of-garden territories, waterbomb fights in the height of summer; we’re talking cooped up winter nights, with bedtime tales in living room dens. World-building, alliance forging, companionship, and sharing - these might seem lofty ideals for a children’s toy, but isn’t that exactly what play should be? Not isolatory, but creative, with emphasis on the proactive body and the active imagination.

Our playhouses proudly display the CE mark. This legal certification indicates that at Pursuit of Adventure, we design and create in ways that are compliant with health, safety, and environmental protection standards. This applies to products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). Whilst CE marking is a self-regulatory process, you can rest assured that your children will be playing with toys that are carefully constructed and entirely safe. This is part of our ethos and commitment to you. Our playhouses have been formed, refined and tested in line with requirements found in the Toy Safety Directive. Our Declaration of Conformity (which sounds a good deal scarier than it is) serves as evidence that we do the right things to make these playhouses as safe and stress-free as possible.
