    A quirky handmade linoprint featuring a mermaid in a circular design

    This linocut print explores the sighting of a mermaid thrown up by the sea on Chesil Beach in June of 1757.

    This creature washed ashore in the 1700s was described as 'no great beauty'. Accounts of this mermaid sighting appear in many authenticated records, and is now widely believed to be a manatee or sea-cow.

    This is my take on the ancient sailor's sighting, with stormy seas, Chesil pebbles, beautiful mermaids, and pretty sea cows.

    Perfect for fans of nautical tales, mermaids or Dorset coastal history! Hang on a bathroom wall, or in a seaside holiday home.

    Made from

    Handcut linoblock printed onto acid free recycled paper using caligo oil based ink. Delicate, handle with care. Frame as soon as possible to protect the print. Keep out of direct sunlight.

    All Prints by the Bay artwork is handmade and original with a mix of limited and open edition linocut prints plus digitally printed greeting cards. The prints are designed, made, pressed and pulled in my home studio in West Dorset, UK. Each print is handmade and unique so there may be slight variations to the picture.
