We love the friendly, orange-beaked Blackbird, coming out to sing after the rain, wrestling worms from the ground, raising everyone’s spirits with its chirpy mood. Did you know they can actually hear a worm moving just underground? So now when you see the Blackbird hopping around the lawn you’ll know why. The males are, as you’d expect, black but the females are actually a dark brown. The ‘four-and-twenty blackbirds baked in a pie’ apparently refers to something Anne Boleyn served up to Henry VIII when they were courting. But don’t let that put you off.
