The favourite piece in our range! This is a solid, weighty bowl that is ideal for fruit, nuts or as a handy place to put things, and will make the perfect centrepiece for your table. Made from polished hard soapstone, it retains its elegant natural colour and has delicate brass finishings around the edges.
The stone is mined and carved in western Kenya. It feels like marble, is heavy and perpetually cold to touch. Hard soapstone differs from the more common, softer variety because it is extracted from deeper within the rock.
Hard soapstone is more difficult to come by - we found only one supplier in Nairobi, so even in Kenya it is a rarity. You may detect some variations in shading as well as some discolouration, which occur naturally in the rock.
Please note: these bowls can be washed in soapy water but should not be submerged for long periods. They are not dishwasher safe.
